Chapter 2 · Practice 4 of 4
Define launch as getting real users, not a big announcement
Why it matters
The lecture defines launching as getting any customers, not a press event, and its core advice is to "launch something bad quickly". The MVP is a first step and a hypothesis, likely wrong in places, so do not fall in love with it.
For a developer product, launching might mean:
- Onboarding five people from your conversations personally.
- Giving them your phone number or a direct chat channel.
- Watching them use it, on a call, without helping.
What you learn in the first two weeks with five real users is usually worth more than another month of building alone. The Indie Product Launch Checklist covers the public launch once you are ready.
Do
- Onboard your first users personally
- Watch at least a few people use it without helping
Avoid
- Waiting for the product to feel finished before anyone sees it
