Google Summer of Code
A yearly Google programme in which new open source contributors spend 12 or more weeks on a mentored project with an open source organisation and receive a stipend. Organisations are announced around February and the contributor application window is short, usually in March, so pick an organisation and start talking to its community well before proposals open. In 2026 organisations reviewed more than 23,000 proposals for about 1,100 places, so the proposal and prior contact decide the outcome.
