Stage 1 · Lesson 10 of 10

Git for scripts and configuration

Linux, the shell and scripting

Everything you write in DevOps lives in Git: scripts, configs, , Terraform code and pipelines. Git gives you history, review and a way back when something breaks. Learn the daily loop.

Clone the repository, create a , commit small changes with clear messages, push, and open a pull request for review. Understand the difference between and rebase, two ways of combining one branch with another. Learn to a bad commit safely with git revert, which adds a new commit that undoes it, and use tags to mark releases.

Add a .gitignore file from the first commit to keep build output and local secrets out of the repository. By the end of this stage your scripts live in Git, and every later stage assumes changes go through a pull request.

Common trapcommitting , such as a password or key: deleting it in a later commit does not remove it from history, so rotate it immediately.
