Stage 1 · Lesson 7 of 7

Python on the Pi, and when C matters

C for embedded

On a Raspberry Pi you will write most application code in Python, because it runs on Linux with libraries for GPIO, sensors, MQTT and web dashboards. Learn C anyway: the drivers and libraries you call are C, and the ideas from this stage (bits, , memory and volatile) explain what those libraries do and why timing behaves as it does.

If you later add a beside the Pi, such as a , that code is usually C or C++. Set up Python properly from the start: requires a (a private folder of packages for one project) for pip installs.

Common trapskipping C because Python works on the Pi, then being unable to read a datasheet's register table or a driver when a sensor misbehaves.
