Your first tech job

Stage 8 · Lesson 6 of 7

When changing jobs early makes sense

Your first year plan

Most first jobs are worth at least a year for what they teach, even when they are not perfect. But there are cases . Your salary is paid late or not at all.

Harassment is not dealt with. There is no real engineering work after months of asking. Or you have a clearly better offer for your growth, not just a small pay bump.

Before you decide, write down what you want from the next year. Note whether you raised the problem with your manager, and what staying would give you. If you do move, leave well and keep it professional.

Common trapleaving after three months because the first tasks were boring, before learning what the job could become.
