Freelancing

Stage 1 of 8 · 7 lessons · ~2 weeks

A service you can sell

Turn what you can already do into one clear service for one kind of client, check that people pay for it, and make sure you are allowed and have the time to deliver it.

Start: Skills you can deliver today

Lessons· one lesson for each topic, in this order

  1. 1Skills you can deliver today
  2. 2Selling an outcome, not a skill
  3. 3Choosing a niche narrow enough to be found
  4. 4Checking demand with real listings
  5. 5One service with a defined scope
  6. 6Checking you are allowed to freelance
  7. 7Your time budget and honest expectations

Do this

  • List the skills you can deliver today, each with a piece of evidence.
  • Rewrite your top two skills as outcomes for a specific kind of client.
  • Study 20 real job posts, Gigs or businesses for your service and note prices, deliverables and competition.
  • Write your niche as "I help [client] with [problem]".
  • Define one service: included, not included, client inputs, delivery time and a starting price.
  • Check platform age and ID rules, any visa conditions and your employment contract.
  • Write down your weekly hours and the weeks you will not take work.

Start with

Keep handy

  • Contract and freelance posts in your niche show which problems businesses pay to solve

Also worth your time

  • Why sharing what you build is how people come to know what you are good at

Before moving on: A one-page service sheet: your niche in one line, one productised service (included, not included, client inputs, delivery time, starting price), notes from 20 real listings or businesses, and your weekly hours.

Tauseef's advice
Pick one thing you can already do well and sell that to one kind of client. Most beginners fail by offering everything to everyone and competing on price. You can widen later, once reviews and repeat clients prove the first service works.
