University to job-ready

Stage 1 · Lesson 1 of 7

One language, learnt properly

Learn beyond the syllabus

Most degrees touch three or four languages in two years. Students end up knowing a little in each and unable to build anything in any of them. Pick one language, usually the one your first courses use (Python, Java or C++), and stay with it for at least six months.

Learnt properly means you can use the basics without looking them up: core types, loops, functions, collections, , file handling and . It also means you can find answers in its official documentation. Every later stage builds on this.

Problems, projects and your first all go faster in a language you already think in.

Common trapswitching when it gets hard, which puts you back at the beginner stage.
