Tech roles beyond coding

Stage 2 · Lesson 9 of 10

Spreadsheets for analysis

Technical literacy

Much business data reaches an analyst as a spreadsheet or an export from another system. Being quick with or Google Sheets lets you answer questions yourself. Learn to sort and filter, and to remove duplicates.

Learn lookups such as XLOOKUP, which pull matching values from another list, the way a join does. Learn pivot tables, which count and total rows by group in a few clicks, and simple charts. Keep the raw export untouched on its own tab and do your work on copies, so anyone can repeat and check the analysis.

Write down where the data came from and when. Spreadsheets and SQL cover the same ideas, so practise both.

Common trapfixing numbers by hand inside the raw data. Nobody can then tell what was changed, and the next export repeats every problem.

A question to check yourself, an AI practice session and 1 cheat sheet entry come with the full roadmap. Unlock
