How to actually get in
- Sit both test phases if you can. The entry test runs twice and the higher score counts; in 2026 Phase-I was 12 to 15 June and Phase-II 6 to 9 July.
- HSC Part I matters. Merit is 60% entry test and 40% HSC Part I (or O Level) marks.
- Rank your programmes before interview day. Seats are picked live in merit order, so BS Computer Science, BE Software Engineering and BE Computer Systems Engineering may be gone by your turn.
- Check the 60% rule. BS Computer Science and BE programmes need 60% in HSC; 57% in HSC-I is enough to apply, but the final result must reach 60%.
- Pre-Medical students can apply to BS Computer Science at 60%.
- Consider TIEST. BS Computer Science is also offered at TIEST, Mithi, which ran extra entry test rounds in 2026.
About NED University of Engineering and Technology
NED University of Engineering and Technology became a university on 1 March 1977 under an act of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, upgrading the NED Government Engineering College that was set up in 1921. The college moved to its Main Campus on University Road, next to the University of Karachi, in 1975.
Computing is taught in three departments. The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (CS&IT) runs BS Computer Science, with specializations in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cyber Security and Gaming and Animation, and MS programmes in Computer Science and IT, Information Security, Data Science and Geospatial Data Science. The Department of Software Engineering runs BE Software Engineering. The Department of Computer and Information Systems Engineering, a separate department since 1997, runs BE Computer Systems Engineering, a programme started in 1984.
In October 2019 NED set up the Thar Institute of Engineering, Sciences and Technology (TIEST) in Mithi, Tharparkar, about 350 km east of Karachi, starting with BS Computer Science.
Admission to all undergraduate programmes goes through one computer-based pre-admission entry test and a merit score, followed by an interview day where candidates pick a discipline from the seats still open at their merit position.

Every claim here is labelled
Admission dates, tests, merit formulas and fees change every cycle, and not all of it is published in one place. Every claim here is labelled with its source and how well established it is. Treat the university's own admissions page as the last word, and tell me when something is out of date.
Nobody pays to be listed here, and nothing on this page is sponsored. Universities cannot buy a higher position or have a profile removed on request, though I will correct anything that is wrong.

Dates move, tests change and fee structures are rewritten every year. If what you went through is different from this page, or something is missing, tell me and I will check it and update the page.

Writing only gets you so far. If you want an answer to your situation rather than the general case, book a session and we will work through it together. Sessions are free for approved Sefism members, and a few slots open each week.
