This page is only as good as what students who have been through it are willing to share. Universities publish the rules, but not how the test felt, where merit closed or how long the wait for a list was. One account from someone who applied is worth more than anything I can find online.

What are you adding?

This decides how the claim is labelled on the page. Only someone representing the university can produce an “official” label, and I check that separately.

Year and month.

Comma separated topics, not the questions themselves.

Dates, the test format, where merit closed and how long each step took are the parts nobody else publishes.

How admission works

  1. 1
    Online application

Create an account on the admissions portal, fill the form, upload a photograph and academic documents, and pay the PKR 3,500 processing fee (PKR 4,000 late) at Askari Bank or online. The fee for one test round cannot be moved to another.

  2. 2
    Entry test

Print the call letter from the portal (no email or SMS is sent) and sit the test in your chosen city.

    Merit listBachelors (BS)

For BS, merit numbers are announced first, applicants can update degree preferences for two days, and several merit lists follow over about five weeks.

  4. 4
    InterviewMasters (MS or MPhil)

MS candidates who qualify the test are interviewed; PAEC fellowship candidates also take a psychological profiling test. Admission is offered on the written test and interview.

  5. 5
    Fee and confirmation

First semester fees cannot be paid in instalments, and no financial aid is given at admission; aid applications open during the first semester.

  6. 6
    Classes begin

BS students joined on 7 September 2026 and MS students on 2 November 2026, starting with an orientation programme.

  • For bachelors

Some BS seats are filled on SAT II (at least 2000 across three subjects) or ACT composite (at least 25), mainly for overseas Pakistanis, with a separate merit list. For BS CIS any three of Physics, Mathematics Level 2, Chemistry and Biology count. Codes: SAT 7272, ACT 3783.

  • For masters

3 hours, all MCQs, no negative marking. General section of 50 questions in 90 minutes (20 Physics, 20 Mathematics, 10 English) plus a 50-question subject section chosen by academic background, including Computer Science and Computer Engineering papers.

  • For masters, phd

MS students admitted on a GAT score are treated as regular fee-paying students. For PhD, a GAT score is required in subjects where NTS offers one.

How merit is worked out

Bachelors (BS)

Who can apply

  • BS Computer and Information Sciences: at least 60% in both Matric/O Level and HSSC (Part I/II)/A Level with Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical or ICS subjects, or HSSC Science General with Mathematics. Candidates who failed or did not appear in any HSSC subject are not eligible. Students awaiting results can apply but need 60% at joining.

  • MS Computer Science (regular fee-paying): BS in an NCEAC-accredited computing degree, or BE in PEC-accredited Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering. First division preferred throughout, one second division (50% or more) allowed, CGPA 2.5/4.0 in the final degree. PAEC fellowship: BS/BE Software Engineering, Computer Science or IT, maximum age 27, and CS graduates must have studied Physics and Mathematics.

  • MS Cyber Security (regular): NCEAC-accredited computing BS, or PEC-accredited Electrical, Electronics, Computer or Telecom engineering. MS Artificial Intelligence: BS Computer Science, AI, Cyber Security, Information Systems, Software Engineering or Computer Engineering.

PIEAS runs its own test for BS and MS and does not use NTS NAT for bachelors. BS admission has two test rounds a year and there is no quota; MS admission runs on a longer cycle with interviews and joins in November.

Companies that recruit from here

Many alumni work there· A large number of graduates work there, on public profiles or in reporting.

Each link says how the company is tied to the university and where that is published. It is not a claim that the company hires only from here, or that a degree from here guarantees an interview.

How to actually get in

  • There are two BS test rounds. In 2026 the first test was on 12 April and the second on 12 July, and each needs its own application fee.
  • The written test is 60% of merit, and PIEAS uses your percentile score. HSSC Part I counts 25% and Matric 15%.
  • Pick the paper that matches your HSSC group. ICS students get a Computer Science section instead of Chemistry; Pre-Medical students are tested on SSC-level Mathematics.
  • You need 60% in both Matric and HSSC. Failing or skipping any HSSC subject makes you ineligible.
  • Check the portal yourself. Call letters and results are posted on the portal and no email or SMS is sent.
  • For MS, consider the PAEC fellowship. It pays a stipend and waives tuition, but has an age limit of 27 and a five-year service bond.
  • Plan to pay the first semester in full. Financial aid applications only open after you join.

About Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences

The Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) traces back to 1967, when the 'Reactor School' was set up to train young engineers and scientists in nuclear technology. It became the Centre for Nuclear Studies in 1976, was renamed PIEAS in 1997, and was granted degree-awarding status by the Government of Pakistan in April 2000. PIEAS describes itself as the main human resource development centre for the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), and it has four constituent colleges in Karachi, Faisalabad and Nilore that teach nuclear power, biotechnology, agriculture and lasers.

Computing is taught by the Department of Computer and Information Sciences (DCIS), set up in May 2000. It launched the BS in Computer and Information Sciences in 2000, the PhD in Computer Science in 2001, the MS in Computer Science in 2013, the MS in Cyber Security in 2019 and the MS in Artificial Intelligence in 2025. The department lists labs in pattern recognition, malware analysis, deep learning and computer vision.

PIEAS is deliberately small. Every BS applicant takes its own written test, and many MS students join through the PAEC fellowship, which pays a monthly stipend in return for a service bond. All computing programmes are taught at the main campus on Lehtrar Road, Nilore, Islamabad.

Every claim here is labelled

Admission dates, tests, merit formulas and fees change every cycle, and not all of it is published in one place. Every claim here is labelled with its source and how well established it is. Treat the university's own admissions page as the last word, and tell me when something is out of date.

Nobody pays to be listed here, and nothing on this page is sponsored. Universities cannot buy a higher position or have a profile removed on request, though I will correct anything that is wrong.
