Where to apply

Add to the University of the Punjab page

This page is only as good as what students who have been through it are willing to share. Universities publish the rules, but not how the test felt, where merit closed or how long the wait for a list was. One account from someone who applied is worth more than anything I can find online.

What are you adding?

This decides how the claim is labelled on the page. Only someone representing the university can produce an “official” label, and I check that separately.

Year and month.

Comma separated topics, not the questions themselves.

Dates, the test format, where merit closed and how long each step took are the parts nobody else publishes.

Mandatory for every FCIT BS programme. Register at admissiontest.pu.edu.pk, pay PKR 2,500 by challan (HBL, UBL or 1Bill) and upload proof of payment. Last year's result is not valid. Choose the test category that matches your intermediate stream.

  2. 2
    Online applicationBachelors (BS)

Apply on the PU admissions portal once programmes are advertised (2 July to 4 August in 2026). Apply to each BS programme and session separately: there is no preference system between programmes.

  3. 3
    Merit listBachelors (BS)

FCIT publishes successive merit lists per programme, campus and session (morning and self support). In Fall 2026 it reached a fifth morning list.

  4. 4
    Document verificationBachelors (BS)

Bring Matric and Intermediate originals, an undertaking on Rs 50 stamp paper attested by a magistrate, an NOC if your board is outside Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Gujranwala or Federal, a medical certificate, 4 blue-background photos and the signed admission form. The fee challan is issued after documents are submitted.

  5. 5
    InterviewMasters (MS or MPhil)

MS/MPhil and PhD admission is based on a departmental written test and an interview. For Fall 2026 interviews ran 3 to 10 August.

How to actually get in

  • Take the PU Admission Test in June: it is mandatory for every FCIT BS programme and is only valid for that year's admissions.
  • Pick the test category that matches your intermediate subjects (PU-CSP for ICS with Physics, PU-E for Pre-Engineering, PU-M for Pre-Medical).
  • Merit uses Matric and Inter Part-I marks for 75% and the test for 25%, so a strong Part-I result matters.
  • Apply separately to each programme, campus and session you want. There is no preference order, and morning and self support have separate merit lists.
  • Pre-Medical students can apply for BS CS and its specialisations but must clear 6 credits of maths deficiency courses in the first year.
  • Start the board NOC early if your intermediate board is outside Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Gujranwala or Federal.

About University of the Punjab

The University of the Punjab was established in Lahore in 1882 and describes itself as the largest and oldest seat of higher learning in Pakistan. It is a public university with an Allama Iqbal (Old) Campus and a Quaid-e-Azam (New) Campus in Lahore, plus sub-campuses in other cities.

Computing at PU began in 1988 with a Center for Computer Science. It became the Department of Computer Science in 1991 and, on 11 November 2000, a constituent college named Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT). A 4-year BSc (Honours) in Computer Science started in January 2001 with 180 students, BS Information Technology followed in 2003, MS/MPhil CS in 2006 and BS Software Engineering in 2007. PUCIT also set up its own software house, Agile Technologies.

In January 2021 the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FCIT) was created with four departments: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology and Data Science. FCIT teaches at both the Old Campus and the New Campus, where the IT Center building opened in 2014.

From Fall 2023, FCIT's BS curricula follow the HEC Undergraduate Policy 2023 and apply across the Lahore, Gujranwala, Jhelum and Pothohar campuses. The Gujranwala Campus has a Department of Information Technology described as an offshoot of PUCIT, and the Jhelum Campus has a Department of Computer Science.

Every claim here is labelled

Admission dates, tests, merit formulas and fees change every cycle, and not all of it is published in one place. Every claim here is labelled with its source and how well established it is. Treat the university's own admissions page as the last word, and tell me when something is out of date.

Nobody pays to be listed here, and nothing on this page is sponsored. Universities cannot buy a higher position or have a profile removed on request, though I will correct anything that is wrong.
