Chapter 2 · Practice 3 of 4
Start with people who already trust you
Why it matters
Your first paying clients often come from people who already know your work: a former manager now at another company, a classmate who started a business, a teacher who knows local firms, an agency you once interned at. They do not need to be convinced you exist; they only need to know what you now offer.
Send a short, personal message rather than a broadcast:
text
Hi Ayesha, I have started freelancing and I am focusing on booking
and payment features for clinics and salons. I just finished one for
a dental practice in Karachi that cut missed appointments.
If you hear of anyone with that problem, I would be grateful for an intro.
It names the niche, gives one piece of proof and asks for something small and specific. Follow up once, politely, and then leave it.
Do
- Make each message personal and specific
- Ask for an introduction, not a job
Avoid
- Mass messages to your whole contact list
