Final Year Project Presentation and Defence Best Practices

Chapter 6 · Practice 2 of 3

Rehearse handovers and cover for each other

From Present as a team

Why it matters

Handovers are where team presentations lose time and flow. Rehearse them like any other part:

  • End your part with a one-line bridge: "That is how data is stored; Sara will now show how it syncs."
  • Keep the laptop and clicker handover quick, or let one person drive slides while each speaks.
  • Agree what happens if someone is ill or freezes: each member should know enough of the others' parts to cover briefly.

If a teammate stumbles, do not take over or correct them in front of the panel. Wait, and if they ask for help, add one or two sentences and hand back.

Do

  • Rehearse every handover
  • Agree a backup presenter for each part

Avoid

  • Interrupting or correcting teammates in front of the panel
