Chapter 2 · Practice 2 of 4
Define the smallest version you would be proud to demo
Why it matters
Before writing the proposal, describe the demo you want to give at the final evaluation in five or six steps. For example:
- A pharmacist signs in on a phone.
- They scan a medicine's barcode and enter the expiry date.
- The dashboard shows medicines expiring in the next 30 days.
- The system sends a reminder a week before expiry.
- A monthly report shows stock saved compared with last month.
That walkthrough is your minimum project. If it still sounds impressive, the scope is right. If it needs ten more steps to be interesting, the idea may be too thin. If even these five steps need technology nobody on the team has used, it may be too big. Keep this walkthrough; it becomes your test plan and your demo script later.
Do
- Write the final demo as five or six user steps
- Use the same steps as your test plan later
Avoid
- A proposal that never says what the finished system will visibly do
