Chapter 4 · Practice 4 of 4
Write a clear limitations section
Why it matters
Every project has limitations. Writing them yourself shows understanding; having an examiner find them first looks like you missed them.
Common limitations in student projects:
- Small number of test users or a short trial period.
- Data from one city, institution or language.
- Features left out of scope, and why.
- Synthetic or simulated data used where real data was unavailable.
- Performance tested on a laptop rather than production infrastructure.
For each one, add a sentence on how future work could address it. A good limitations section also prepares you for the viva, because it lists the questions examiners are most likely to ask.
Do
- List limitations with how future work could address them
Avoid
- Hiding known weaknesses in the hope nobody asks
