AI governance

Stage 2 · Lesson 1 of 6

What counts as an AI system

AI inventory: know what you run

Before you can list , you need a definition. The , following the OECD, describes an AI system as a machine-based system that works with some autonomy and infers from its inputs how to produce outputs such as predictions, content, recommendations or decisions.

In practice an inventory should include models you train, models you call through an , AI features inside software you buy (a that scores leads, an HR tool that ranks CVs) and AI tools staff use on their own, such as chat assistants. Simple rule-based logic written entirely by people is usually outside the definition.

Common traplisting only what the data science team built, while most AI risk now arrives through vendors and everyday tools.
