What it is

The AI Act Service Desk is the European Commission's single information platform for the EU AI Act. Its most useful part for learners is the article-by-article view of the Act, which follows the consolidated text on EUR-Lex (including the July 2026 amendments), so you can read exactly what Article 5, Article 14 or Article 73 says rather than someone's summary of it. It also collects the Commission's guidelines, FAQs and other resources in one place.

What you will find

  • The Act itself, article by article. Prohibited practices (Article 5), the classification rules for high-risk systems (Article 6 and Annex III), requirements such as risk management, data governance, record keeping, transparency and human oversight (Articles 9 to 15), obligations for deployers, conformity assessment, and serious incident reporting (Article 73).
  • Guidelines. Official Commission guidelines, such as those on the scope of the obligations for providers of general-purpose AI models published in July 2025.
  • Questions. A route for organisations to ask the Commission about applying the Act.

Why it matters for governance work

Governance work is mostly mapping: this system, under this article, needs these controls and this evidence. To map properly you must read the source. For example, Article 73 sets out who reports a serious incident involving a high-risk system, to which authority and how fast: generally within 15 days of becoming aware of it, with shorter deadlines for widespread infringements and deaths. Those details rarely survive in slide decks.

How to use it

Keep it open while you build an AI inventory or a compliance mapping. For each high-risk requirement, note the article, what it asks for in one line, and the evidence that would show it is met. Check the version date on the page: the Act has already been amended once, in 2026.

Prerequisites

None, but read the Commission's overview of the Act first so you know where each article fits.
