Stage 1 · Lesson 1 of 6
Five kinds of task
Most LLM features fall into five families, and each one stresses a model differently. Chat (a support bot, a tutor) needs good tone, fast replies and steady over many turns. Coding needs exact syntax, knowledge of libraries and the ability to work across many files.
Research (reading sources and writing a cited answer) needs long context, careful reading and honesty about gaps. Data analysis (questions over tables, spreadsheets, SQL) needs correct reasoning with numbers, ideally with a code tool so the model calculates instead of guessing.
(sorting emails, filling forms, moving data between apps) needs reliable and tool calls, at high volume and low cost. Name your family first. It tells you which strengths to test and which ones you can ignore.
