Stage 1 · Lesson 6 of 7
HTTPS and certificates
is HTTP carried over TLS (Transport Layer Security), which encrypts traffic and lets the browser check it is talking to the real server. That check uses a certificate, a signed file proving someone controls the domain, issued by a certificate authority.
In the cloud you rarely manage certificates by hand: managed and can issue and renew free certificates once your points at them. Understand what a certificate proves, why it expires and where TLS ends in your design, for example at the load balancer.
Common trapinstalling certificates on each VM by hand and letting one expire on a weekend.
