Stage 2 · Lesson 2 of 8

Actors, components and the gameplay framework

Programming for games

Unreal gives every game a ready-made structure. are objects placed or spawned in a level. add reusable behaviour to them.

The gives each class a role. The GameMode holds the rules. A Pawn or Character is the body the player controls.

The PlayerController turns the player's input into commands. show the HUD, the on-screen health and score. Actors get when play starts and Tick every frame, but switch Tick off wherever you do not need it.

Putting logic where Unreal expects it makes respawning, switching characters and multiplayer far easier.

Common trapputting the game rules and the score on the player character, then losing them when the character dies.
