Stage 1 · Lesson 6 of 7
Where demand is growing
Cuts and hiring happen at the same time, often in the same company. Meta moved about 7,000 staff into AI roles in 2026 while laying off others, and Accenture grew its AI and data staff while cutting elsewhere. Indeed found that in the year to May 2026 more than a third of the growth in software postings came from jobs with "AI" in the title.
The World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025 lists AI and machine learning specialists, big data specialists and software developers among the fastest-growing roles, and expects 39% of core skills to change by 2030. Security, data and the infrastructure that runs AI are growing too.
Common trapchasing the hottest title. The safer move is to add the growing skills to the field you already know.
