MongoDB

Stage 1 · Lesson 7 of 8

Compass as your GUI

Documents and your setup

is MongoDB's free graphical tool. Connect it to your and browse databases, collections and documents, filter them with a query bar, and edit single documents. Three tabs will matter later in this roadmap.

The Schema tab samples a collection and shows which exist and how their types vary, which is how you spot messy data. The Explain Plan tab shows whether a query used an index. The Aggregations tab builds one stage at a time with a preview after each stage.

Compass also has built in at the bottom of the window. Use it to explore and to check your work, and keep writing the commands yourself in the shell.

Common traplearning only the query bar and freezing when you have to write the same filter in code.

A question to check yourself, an AI practice session and 1 cheat sheet entry come with the full roadmap. Unlock
