Chapter 2 · Practice 3 of 5
Test every code snippet and command before publishing
Why it matters
Broken code in a tutorial costs readers time and costs you credibility. Before you publish:
- Run every snippet in a clean environment, in the order the post presents it.
- State versions of languages, frameworks and tools.
- Show expected output so readers know when a step worked.
- Link a complete working repository for anything longer than a few snippets.
When versions change, either update the post with a dated note or mark it clearly as written for an older version. Readers forgive old posts; they do not forgive posts that pretend to be current and fail.
Do
- Run the steps from scratch before publishing
- Link a working repository for longer tutorials
Avoid
- Snippets copied from memory and never run
