Final Year Project Proposal Best Practices

Chapter 7 · Practice 4 of 4

Treat "accepted with changes" as normal and respond in writing

From Get the proposal approved

Why it matters

Committees often approve a proposal with conditions. The University of Lahore's Islamabad campus guidelines list three outcomes: accepted, accepted with changes, and rejected, with changed or rejected proposals resubmitted within an agreed timeline. FAST's evaluation form has a place for recommended minor or major modifications and requires a reason when a proposal is rejected.

When you receive changes:

  • Write each requested change down as a numbered list.
  • Agree with your supervisor how you will address each one.
  • Resubmit with a short change log: "Comment 2: reduced scope to two user types; see section 3."

Keep this change log. It shows the committee you listened, and it is useful evidence if the scope is questioned later in the year.

Do

  • Keep a numbered change log with each response
  • Resubmit within the department's timeline

Avoid

  • Arguing with every comment instead of addressing it
