Chapter 7 · Practice 2 of 4
Review the draft with your supervisor before it goes to the committee
Why it matters
Your supervisor has seen many proposals and usually knows what the committee will question. Send them a draft at least a week before the deadline and ask specific questions:
- Is the scope realistic for two semesters?
- Are the objectives testable?
- Is anything likely to be challenged as already done?
- Does the project need ethics approval?
Fix what they flag before submission. A supervisor who has shaped the proposal is also more likely to support it in the committee and to stay engaged through the year.
Do
- Send a draft at least a week before the deadline
- Ask your supervisor specific questions, not "is it fine?"
Avoid
- Submitting without the supervisor having read it
