Chapter 1 · Practice 2 of 3
Write each chapter while the work is fresh
Why it matters
The most common report mistake is leaving all writing to the last month. By then you have forgotten why you made decisions, which experiments failed and what the first design looked like.
A simple rhythm that works:
- After each design decision: add a paragraph to the design chapter with the options you considered and why you chose one.
- After each iteration or experiment: add the results, with the date and settings, to the testing or results chapter.
- Every week: spend one session turning notes into proper paragraphs.
Several departments expect a large part of the report well before the end. The University of Lahore's Islamabad campus guidelines, for instance, ask for a report that is 80% complete before the second mid evaluation.
Do
- Add a paragraph to the report after every key decision
- Block one writing session per week
Avoid
- Starting the report after the code is finished
