Chapter 06

Find employers who hire from abroad

Who sponsors, where to search, how to work with recruiters and how to spot a fake offer.

Target company list

What
A list of 20 to 40 employers in your destination with evidence that each sponsors or relocates, and a person you know or could reach inside each.
Why
Focused applications to companies that sponsor beat hundreds of blind ones.
Example
Evidence: "visa sponsorship" in their ads, engineers on LinkedIn who moved from your region, or a listing on an official sponsor register.

Watch out

Building the list from famous names instead of evidence.

Relocation-friendly job board

What
A job board that lists roles with visa sponsorship or relocation support, or lets you filter for them.
Why
It saves time by starting from employers that already hire from abroad.

Watch out

Trusting the board's label without reading the ad and the company's own careers page.

Recruitment agency

Also called agency recruiter, overseas employment promoter

What
A firm paid by employers to find candidates; in Pakistan, overseas employment promoters must be licensed by the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment.
Why
Good agencies know which employers sponsor and can get you into hiring rounds faster.

Watch out

Paying an agency any fee for a job; genuine recruiters are paid by employers.

Referral

What
An engineer inside a company recommending you for a role through its internal system.
Why
Referred candidates often move faster, and people who moved from your country know how the process really works.

Watch out

Asking strangers for a referral in your first message without saying why you fit.

Job and visa scam red flags

Also called fake job offer, visa scam

What
The warning signs of a fake overseas job or visa offer.
Why
Scams target people hoping to move abroad, taking fees, documents or bank details.
Code
Any fee: visa, medical, training, deposit
Offer with no real interview
WhatsApp, Telegram or free email only
Pressure: "pay today or lose the seat"
Salary far above the local range
Asks for passport scans or bank PIN early
Visa "guaranteed" by an agent
Company site or domain does not match

Watch out

Believing a small fee is normal to speed things up; never pay for a job or a visa.

Verifying an offer

What
Checking that the company, the recruiter and any visa document are real, through the company's own site and government portals.
Why
Fake offers copy real company logos and government letterheads.
Example
Find the role on the company's careers page, email HR at the domain on its website, and check any permit number on the government portal.

Watch out

Verifying with contact details given in the suspicious message itself.

Salary expectation

What
The pay range you give when a recruiter asks, in the local currency and based on local data.
Why
An early number anchors the offer and can follow you through the process.

Watch out

Converting your home salary and doubling it, which is often below the local range.
