Where to apply

Ask for a referral to Goldman Sachs

A referral only means something if the person giving it can actually speak to your work. I will refer you where I know someone on the inside and your profile genuinely fits the role, and I will tell you plainly when I cannot. Either way you get an answer, and a straight one.

  • I read every request. A reply takes a few days, sometimes longer.
  • I will not refer someone for a role their profile does not fit. It wastes your time and costs me the contact.
  • Where I cannot refer you, I will say why, and point you at the way in that does work.
  • Nothing you send here is shared with anyone without you agreeing to it first.

If you found the opening, paste it. It tells me which team you mean.

A Drive, Dropbox or personal-site link is fine. Make sure it opens without a request for access, or I cannot read it.

At least a short paragraph. This is what I would be putting my name behind, so specifics beat adjectives.

Comma separated, up to six. Things you would be happy to be tested on.

How they hire

This covers campus engineering recruiting. Campus applicants should hear back within three weeks of the HackerRank assessment. Experienced professionals follow a shorter track (online assessment for some roles, then divisional interviews) and can interview for only one role at a time. Quantitative strategist applicants also take a 22 minute maths challenge.

Everyone takes a 30 minute Software Fundamentals challenge in a language of their choice. Engineering applicants also take a 45 minute Software Diagnostics challenge, fixing issues in an existing Django, Node.js or Spring Boot app with a limited built-in AI assistant.

    Panel interview

A series of final-round interviews, typically two to five for campus hires depending on the division, with a cross-section of people you might work with.

What comes up

Recurring themes from candidate accounts, not a question bank. Nobody is served by leaked question lists, least of all you in the interview.

  • Data structures and complexity

    Official

The fundamentals challenge covers data structures, algorithms, and time and space complexity.

  • Working in an existing codebase

    Official

The diagnostics challenge rewards reading unfamiliar code, debugging, writing tests and making targeted changes rather than building from scratch, using the AI assistant while applying your own judgement.

  • Technical and functional depth for experienced hires

    Official

Experienced candidates may take an online assessment and then interview with the division, focusing on technical and functional ability.

Grokking 75: Top Coding Interview Questions

A course built around 75 coding interview questions chosen for coverage across 18 topic areas, from arrays and sliding window to graphs, backtracking, dynamic programming and tries. Each question has a step-by-step algorithm, a walkthrough and complexity analysis, with solutions in six languages. It suits candidates with a few weeks before an interview who need a balanced, finite problem set rather than an endless list.

AI Mock Interviews

On-demand mock interviews with an AI interviewer for coding and system design rounds. It asks questions, follows up on your reasoning the way a real interviewer would, and ends with detailed feedback and a custom improvement plan. It suits software engineers preparing for technical interviews who want to practise whenever they are free and repeat sessions until their answers feel natural.

Grokking the AI System Design Interview

A course on AI system design interviews, from classic ML systems such as recommendations, ranking and fraud detection to LLM serving costs, RAG, generative AI products and agentic systems, with a repeatable framework and full case studies. It takes about 20 hours across 9 chapters. It suits engineers who can write code and know what a model, an API and a database are, and are facing design rounds that now include AI.

Sefism Job Search Cheat Sheet

A revision reference for every step of a software job search, in 8 chapters and 55 concepts: target role and level, resume and keyword mirroring, proof of work, referrals and reply rate, what technical and behavioural rounds look for, the parts of an offer (total compensation, RSUs, options, vesting and cliff) and polite negotiation. It suits anyone in an active search and follows the Sefism Job search roadmap chapter by chapter. Use it to revise after each stage and to read an offer properly before you reply.

Sefism Job Search Roadmap

A seven-stage plan for looking for a software job on purpose instead of mass applying: choose a target role, level and tiered company list, build a one-page resume and proof of work, apply through referrals and short messages with a tracked weekly rhythm, get ready for the technical and behavioural rounds, and compare and negotiate offers. It suits final-year students, graduates hearing nothing back and experienced engineers changing company. At the end you have a search you can measure and a researched number when the offer arrives.

What it pays

Nothing collected for this company yet, and nothing worth guessing at. A made-up range is worse than no range because people negotiate against it.

Add to the Goldman Sachs page

This library is only as good as what people who have been through it are willing to share. Most of these companies have no hiring process documented anywhere, and one account of what the rounds actually were is worth more than anything I can research from the outside.

What are you adding?

This decides how the claim is labelled on the page. Only someone representing the company can produce an “official” label, and I check that separately.

Year and month.

Comma separated topics, not the questions themselves.

Round by round is ideal: what each one was, how long, remote or in person, and what it covered.

Credit

Anonymous is the default. If you keep it anonymous, nothing identifying you reaches the page: it is published as a candidate account and your name stays with me. Never send anything covered by an NDA, and never send a take-home or a question paper.

Universities they recruit from

No sourced university links yet. A campus drive, a career fair appearance or an internship partnership is what puts a university here.

How to actually get seen

Take the HackerRank practice assessment first, and prepare for the diagnostics section by practising debugging and adding tests in an unfamiliar Django, Node.js or Spring Boot project.

Send me the role, your CV and a few honest paragraphs on why you fit it. Where I know someone inside and your profile matches, I will make the introduction. Where I cannot, I will tell you why and point you at the route that does work. You get an answer either way.
