What the channel covers

Alex Freberg runs this channel to teach the skills a data analyst uses at work and to help people make the move into the role. The tools are the standard analyst stack: SQL (MySQL), Excel, Tableau, Power BI and Python with pandas, with newer series on Databricks, R and cloud fundamentals for analysts.

Playlists to start with

  • Data Analyst Bootcamp: the closest thing to a full course on the channel, moving through the main tools in order.
  • MySQL Basics Tutorial Series, then Intermediate MySQL Tutorial Series and Advanced MySQL Tutorial Series: a graded path through SQL from SELECT to joins, window functions, CTEs and data cleaning.
  • Excel Tutorials for Data Analysts: formulas, pivot tables and charts the way analysts use them.
  • Tableau Tutorials For Beginners and Power BI Tutorials for Beginners: building dashboards from real datasets.
  • Python for Beginners and Pandas for Beginners: enough Python to clean and analyse data.
  • Data Analyst Portfolio Projects: end-to-end projects you can rebuild and extend for your own portfolio.
  • Data Fundamentals for Beginners and Git and GitHub for Beginners: useful supporting skills.

Who it suits

Students, fresh graduates and career switchers aiming for analyst roles, including people from non-computing backgrounds. The pace is gentle, and the advice is practical. Experienced data people will find most of it introductory.

How to learn from it without getting stuck in tutorial loops

Analytics is easy to "watch" and hard to do. Make each playlist produce something:

  1. Install MySQL, Excel or Power BI before you press play, and type every query yourself.
  2. After each SQL video, answer three questions of your own about the same dataset.
  3. Do the portfolio projects, then repeat each one with a different dataset, for example from Kaggle Datasets or the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
  4. Publish dashboards on Tableau Public and write two or three sentences on what the data shows. Insight, not just charts, is what hiring managers look for.

Best for: beginners and career switchers who want a practical, tool-by-tool route into data analyst work.
