Why it is worth reading
It goes where most system design writing stops. Rather than saying a database shards, it works through how a particular system implements sharding, what breaks, and what the alternatives cost. That level of specificity is what separates a candidate who has read about systems from one who understands them.
How to use it
Follow the topic you are currently weakest on rather than reading chronologically. The essays are largely independent, which makes it a strong reference and a poor sequential read.
