Blind is a community for verified professionals, with more than 12 million users according to its about page. You sign up with a work email to prove where you work; Blind says your activity cannot be linked back to that email and real names are not required. That combination produces unusually candid discussion.

It offers:

• Offer evaluation posts, where people share an offer and ask whether to accept or negotiate.

What it is genuinely good for

• Offer benchmarking. Seeing what others at the same company and level report helps you judge whether an offer is fair and where there may be room to negotiate.

The honest warning

The culture is competitive and often unpleasant. It is heavily weighted toward compensation as the measure of success, prone to catastrophising, and full of confident anonymous claims. It is a useful data source and a poor place to form your view of the profession or your own progress. Blind itself notes that posts are user-generated opinions.

For students and early-career engineers, especially outside the large US tech companies, much of the discussion will not reflect your market. Salary figures from San Francisco or Seattle do not translate to Lahore, Karachi or Islamabad, or to remote roles priced for other regions.

How to use it well

• Arrive with a specific question, find the answer, and leave.
• Look for patterns across many posts, not single claims.
• Cross-check compensation with other sources and with people you trust.
• Protect your anonymity: do not share details that could identify you.
• Do not let it set your self-worth. Comparing yourself with the loudest anonymous posters is a reliable way to feel behind.

Can students join? Full access generally requires a work email. Some content is visible without an account.

Is it really anonymous? Blind describes technical measures to separate identity from activity, but anything you write can still identify you through context. Be careful.

Is it useful for jobs in Pakistan? Mainly for multinational companies with local offices or for remote and international roles. For local market salaries, peers and local communities are better sources.
