What it is

The DAAD scholarship database lists scholarship programmes of the German Academic Exchange Service and some other funders for international students, graduates, doctoral candidates and researchers who want to study or do research in Germany. You choose your country of origin, your status (for example graduate or doctoral candidate) and your subject, and it shows the programmes you can apply for, with eligibility, benefits, application procedure and deadlines.

What you find there

The programmes vary widely. Some fund a full masters, some a doctorate, some shorter research stays. One well-known example is EPOS, Development-Related Postgraduate Courses, which funds graduates from eligible developing countries with at least two years of professional experience to take selected masters and PhD programmes in Germany. As of 2026-09 an official EPOS call for 2027/28 lists a monthly payment of 992 euros for graduates, and deadlines vary by course. Other entries include study scholarships for masters in all disciplines for applicants from particular countries and doctoral programmes funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

How to use it well

  1. Enter your real country and status; the results change a lot with them.
  2. Open each result and read the eligibility section line by line: work experience, degree dates and subject restrictions are common.
  3. Note the deadline and whether you apply to DAAD, to the university programme or to both.
  4. Put each deadline in your tracker; many fall close to a year before the programme starts.

Is it worth it?

Yes, if you are considering Germany. It is the most reliable single source for German scholarships, and it is free. Its limit is that the most generous scholarships are competitive and often tied to specific countries or professional experience, so do not assume one exists for your case until the database shows it.

Free to search and free to apply. No official DAAD scholarship requires a fee to an agent.

Common questions

Can I get a DAAD scholarship straight after my bachelor degree? Some programmes allow it; many, such as EPOS, require work experience. The database entry states the rule.

Does DAAD pay tuition? Many public universities charge little tuition; DAAD scholarships mainly provide a monthly payment plus allowances. Read each entry's benefits section.
