What it is

EduCanada is Canada's official international education brand and website, run by Global Affairs Canada. It helps international students explore Canadian institutions and programmes, understand costs and living in Canada, and find scholarships. Its scholarships section includes a page of awards for non-Canadians, updated by the government.

What you find there

  • An overview of Canadian universities, colleges and graduate study.
  • How to choose a programme and apply, which in Canada is usually directly to each institution.
  • Costs of study and living, with links to provincial and institutional information.
  • Scholarships for international students offered by the Government of Canada and others.
  • Links to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for study permits and work.

Funding reality

Graduate funding in Canada mostly comes from universities and supervisors: research masters and PhD students are often offered a package of scholarships, teaching assistantships and research assistantships. Course-based masters are usually self-funded. Government awards for international students are limited. As of 2026-09 the Vanier programme is no longer accepting applications and has been replaced by the Canada Graduate Research Scholarship for doctoral students, where only a small share of awards can go to international applicants.

How to use it well

  1. Use EduCanada to understand the system and find scholarships.
  2. Read each university's graduate studies pages for funding and admission.
  3. Read the IRCC study permit pages before accepting an offer, including proof of funds and attestation letter rules.
  4. Get any funding promise in writing in your offer or funding letter.

Is it worth it?

Yes, as an official starting point. Its limits: it is broad and promotional; the binding rules for permits and work are on IRCC, and admission and funding details are on university pages.

Common questions

Is study in Canada funded? Research degrees often are, through the university. Course-based masters usually are not.

Where are the visa rules? On the IRCC website, not on EduCanada.

Should I pay a consultant to find scholarships? No. The scholarships listed on EduCanada and on university pages are free to apply for, and you can read them yourself. Anyone charging you to access a government scholarship list is selling something you can get for free.
