What it is

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters are integrated masters programmes run by consortia of higher education institutions in different countries, usually with study periods in at least two of them and a joint or multiple degree at the end. The European Education and Culture Executive Agency publishes the official catalogue of current programmes, each with a link to the consortium's own website.

The scholarships

The European Union funds scholarships for the best applicants to each programme, and students from anywhere in the world can apply. As of 2026-09 the official Erasmus+ pages say scholarships cover participation costs and contribute to travel, visa and a living allowance, calculated at 1,400 euros per month for the duration of the programme. The number of scholarships per programme is limited and competition is strong.

How applying works

You do not apply to the EU. You apply to each programme's consortium through its own website, and the consortium decides both admission and scholarships. The official pages say applications usually run between October and January for courses starting the following academic year, but each programme sets its own dates and requirements. Most ask for transcripts, an English score, a CV, a motivation letter and references.

How to use it well

  1. Filter the catalogue by field; several programmes cover computer science, data science, cyber security and related areas.
  2. Read each programme's website: mobility track, partner universities, language, requirements and scholarship rules.
  3. Shortlist the two to four that genuinely fit, and write a motivation letter specific to each.
  4. Put each consortium's deadline in your tracker; they differ.

Is it worth it?

For students who want a European masters and like moving between countries, yes. The scholarship is one of the most generous open to everyone worldwide. The costs are the time spent on several demanding applications and the fact that most applicants do not win a scholarship. Some programmes also admit self-funded students, so check the fees in case you are admitted without funding.

Free or paid

The catalogue is free. Most consortia do not charge application fees, but check each programme.

Common questions

Can I apply to many programmes? The rules allow applying to several programmes, subject to the programme guide's current limits; quality matters more than quantity.

Do I move between countries? Usually yes, which is part of the value and part of the cost.
