EURES, the European Job Mobility Portal
The European Union's official job mobility portal, with public job listings from across the EU, EEA countries and Switzerland. It is built mainly for Europeans moving between European countries, so read it with that in mind, but the listings and the country guides on living and working are useful to anyone researching a move.

What it is
EURES is the European job mobility network, and eures.europa.eu is its official portal. As of October 2026, its job seeker page says nearly 3 million jobs and 5,000 registered employers across its 31 EURES countries. It also offers a Europass CV builder, EURES advisers you can contact or chat with, European Job Days (online and in person), and country pages on living and working conditions.
Who it is really for
Be honest with yourself here. EURES exists to help people move for work within the European Economic Area and Switzerland. Its services, advisers and job fairs are designed around EU and EEA citizens, who do not need a work visa to move between those countries.
If you are a CS graduate from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh or Nigeria, EURES does not give you a visa, a sponsor or priority. What it does give you:
- Public job listings you can search by country, occupation and language.
- A feel for demand: how many software roles a country lists, and which ask for the local language.
- Living and working guides for each country.
Many employers on EURES only consider candidates who already have the right to work in the EU. Read each advert carefully.
How to use it well
- Search by occupation (for example, software developers) and country, then filter for English if you do not speak the local language.
- Note employers that hire in English and look them up directly. Check their careers pages for any mention of visa sponsorship or relocation.
- Use the country pages to understand contracts, taxes and the cost of living, then confirm the visa rules on that country's official immigration site.
- Treat it as a research tool alongside other job boards, not as your only channel.
A useful detail for Ireland
Ireland's Department of Enterprise says that for a General Employment Permit's labour market needs test, employers must advertise the job with the Department of Social Protection's employment services and EURES. So EURES listings sometimes show roles that may later be open to non-EU candidates.
Common mistakes and scams
- Assuming a listing on an EU portal comes with a visa. It does not.
- Answering "EURES recruiters" who contact you on WhatsApp and ask for a fee. Never pay for a job, a visa or an interview.
- Ignoring language requirements in the advert.
Where to go next on Sefism
- Plan the move step by step with the Tech jobs abroad roadmap and keep its cheat sheet open while you apply.
- Read How to get a tech job in Europe from Pakistan or India.
- For Germany, start with Make it in Germany; for Ireland, Irish employment permits.
