Google Career Certificates
Google's entry-level certificate programmes in fields such as data analytics, IT support, UX design, cybersecurity and project management, taught on Coursera. They give a structured, beginner-friendly route into a field, but a certificate on its own is rarely enough to be hired.

What they are
Google Career Certificates are online programmes built by Google and delivered on Coursera. As of 2026-09 the official page lists foundational certificates in Data Analytics, Project Management, Cybersecurity, Digital Marketing and E-commerce, IT Support, UX Design and an AI Professional certificate, plus advanced certificates in Advanced Data Analytics, Business Intelligence and IT Automation with Python.
Cost and time
According to Google's official page (grow.google/certificates, read 2026-09), the certificates cost $49 USD per month after a 7-day free trial, and most people take 3 to 6 months at under 10 hours of study a week. Faster learners pay less because billing is monthly. The same page says you may be eligible for financial aid through Coursera from the course page, so check that before paying if the monthly fee is a stretch. Prices can vary by country and change over time; always confirm on Coursera before you subscribe.
What you get
Video lessons, readings, quizzes and graded practical tasks, ending in a shareable certificate. Google's page also mentions an employer consortium of more than 150 companies that it says consider graduates, and reports outcomes self-reported by graduates. Treat those outcome figures as Google's own marketing claims, based mainly on the United States.
Who they suit
- Career changers who want structure and deadlines rather than a self-built plan.
- People testing whether a field such as data analytics, IT support or UX suits them before investing more.
- People whose employer or a local programme will pay the subscription.
Where they fall short
A certificate shows you finished a course. Employers hiring juniors mostly want to see what you can do: a portfolio of projects, a case study or real work. Many thousands of people hold the same certificate, so it rarely sets you apart. Use the course to learn, then build two or three projects of your own, ideally using data or problems from your previous field.
Free alternatives
Much of the same ground is covered free by freeCodeCamp, Kaggle Learn for data skills, and the free courses of many universities. If money is tight, start with free material and only pay once you are sure of the direction.
