What it covers
The full management round set. Team building and hiring, one to one and performance conversations including the difficult ones, project planning and delivery under constraint, working with product and other stakeholders, and the technical judgement questions a manager still has to answer.
Where candidates lose it
Structure. Managers usually have the experience; what they lack is a way to deliver it in four minutes. Without a frame, an answer about a difficult performance conversation becomes a ten minute account of the whole situation with the decision buried somewhere in the middle. The interviewer is scoring the decision.
How to use it
Draft your stories against the categories the course lays out, then time yourself telling each one. Anything over three minutes needs cutting, and the cutting is where you find out what the story is actually about.
Best for: engineering managers interviewing externally, and senior engineers preparing to step up.
