HackerRank Interview Preparation Kit

A free curated set of coding challenges on HackerRank, grouped into topics such as arrays, hash maps, sorting, strings, greedy algorithms, search, dynamic programming, stacks and queues, graphs, trees, linked lists and recursion, each tagged with how often companies test it. It suits early-stage candidates, and anyone with a HackerRank screening test booked who wants to practise in the same editor and input format.

What is in the kit

The kit opens with warm-up challenges for people new to HackerRank, then groups problems by topic. Each topic shows the share of companies HackerRank says test it, drawn from what it describes as learnings from more than 1,000 companies. As shown on the kit page in September 2026:

  • Arrays (70% of companies)
  • Dictionaries and hashmaps, sorting, and string manipulation (40% each)
  • Greedy algorithms (31%)
  • Search (30%)
  • Dynamic programming (27%)
  • Stacks and queues (17%)
  • Graphs (15%)
  • Trees (12%)
  • Linked lists (8%)
  • Recursion and backtracking (5%)
  • Miscellaneous

The kit also includes mock tests to assess yourself. HackerRank offers separate time-boxed preparation kits (for example one week, one month and three months) on its preparation kits page.

The environment argument

Many companies run their first online screening test on HackerRank. The editor, the way input arrives on standard input, and the way failing test cases are reported are all specific to it, and discovering that under a 60 or 90 minute clock costs real time. Working through this kit removes that friction. If you have a HackerRank test from an employer in Pakistan or abroad, this is the most direct preparation you can do.

How hard is it?

The difficulty ceiling is lower than a large-company onsite. Most problems are easy to medium, and the dynamic programming and graph sections are small. Treat completing the kit as a starting point, not a finish line.

How long it takes

Two to four weeks at an hour a day covers the kit. Go faster through the topics you know and spend time on the ones you fail.

How to use it well

  • Start with the warm-up to learn the input format, even if the problems feel trivial.
  • Follow the percentages. Arrays, hash maps, strings and sorting come up most in screening tests, so make those automatic first.
  • Read the discussions only after solving. They are useful for seeing shorter solutions, but some posted answers are copied without explanation.
  • Take a mock test before any real screening test, timed, in one sitting.
  • Then move on to a pattern-based list such as NeetCode 150 or Grind 75 for onsite-level practice.

Common questions

Is it free? Yes, with a free HackerRank account.

Does passing the kit mean I will pass a company's HackerRank test? Not necessarily. Company tests often use custom problems, some harder than the kit. The kit prepares you for the format and the common topics.

Best for: early-stage preparation, and anyone with a HackerRank screening test booked.
