Japan Dev is a job board for software engineers who want to work in Japan. It focuses on English-friendly developer roles, so it is a gentler starting point than general Japanese job sites if you do not yet speak much Japanese.

Who it is for

A CS graduate or developer from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nigeria or anywhere else who is curious about working in Japan. It is also useful before you apply: browsing listings shows you which companies hire foreign engineers, which stacks they use and what level of Japanese they ask for.

How to use it

  • Read each listing closely. Check the Japanese level the role asks for, whether it accepts applicants from overseas and whether the company supports visas. Apply where you genuinely match.
  • Make a shortlist of companies. Note companies that repeatedly hire engineers from abroad, then read their own careers pages and engineering blogs.
  • Confirm visa facts at the source. Whatever you read on any job site, check visa rules on the Immigration Services Agency pages.
  • Prepare for the process. Expect more than one interview round, often with a coding exercise. If you are hired from abroad, your employer will usually file a Certificate of Eligibility for you.

Honest expectations

English-friendly roles in Japan exist, but there are far fewer of them than roles needing Japanese, and many prefer a few years of experience. Learning some Japanese widens your options a great deal, even if your first job does not require it. A graduate with a solid portfolio and basic Japanese stands out.

Common mistakes and scams

  • Paying anyone to get you a job in Japan. Real employers do not charge candidates. If someone asks for a fee to "place" you or arrange your visa, walk away.
  • Applying to roles that need business-level Japanese. Read the language requirement before applying.
  • Ignoring the visa side. Make sure the company has hired from abroad before, and ask whether it will support your Certificate of Eligibility.
  • Treating a job board as an employer. Japan Dev lists roles; you still need to check each company yourself.
