What the course is
Jeremy's IT Lab is a YouTube channel run by Jeremy McDowell, a network engineer who, in his own words, got his CCNA in 2018 and started the channel in 2019 to help others do the same. His CCNA 200-301 course is a complete video course organised by study day: day 1 covers network devices, then interfaces and cables, the TCP/IP model, the command line, switching, IPv4 addressing, routing, subnetting, VLANs and on through to wireless, security, automation, REST APIs, software-defined networking, and Ansible, Puppet, Chef and Terraform on day 63. It ends with a long CCNA Mega Lab that pulls everything together.
What comes with each day
- A lecture video covering that day's exam topics in depth.
- Anki flashcards, for the free spaced-repetition app Anki, so the facts stick.
- A Packet Tracer lab for most days, so you configure what you just learnt.
The flashcards and lab files are offered free alongside the YouTube videos.
Free or paid?
The videos are free on YouTube. Jeremy also sells the course on his own site for a one-time $69 (with installments offered), which adds the lecture slides as PDFs, a bonus quiz for each day, ad-free viewing, a certificate of completion and answers to questions. He sells a separate CCNA lab series and practice exam there too. You do not need the paid version to learn the material; it is for those who want the extras or to support the author.
Is it worth it?
For most CCNA learners, yes. The strengths are the day-by-day structure, which turns a large syllabus into manageable pieces, and the habit it builds of lecture, flashcards and lab together. The explanations are thorough and paced for beginners, and the labs make you type commands rather than just watch.
Which exam version it covers
The course was built for CCNA 200-301 as tested before the 2027 refresh, including the version 1.1 additions. Cisco's version 2.0 of the exam starts on 3 February 2027. If your exam date is after that, check the v2.0 exam topics and fill any gaps, and watch the channel for updates.
How to use it well
- Watch one day at a time and do its lab the same day.
- Review your Anki cards every day, even on days without a new lecture.
- Keep the Packet Tracer files, and redo the harder labs from a blank topology before the exam.
- Pair it with Cisco's official exam topics list to track what you have covered.
Common questions
Do I need anything else? Packet Tracer (free) and Anki (free). Many learners also use Cisco Networking Academy courses or a book alongside it.
How long will it take? It depends on your pace; the course is 63 study days plus the mega lab, and most learners spread it over several months with review.
