Learn GDScript From Zero
A free, open source interactive app from GDQuest that teaches programming from scratch using GDScript, Godot's language. It runs in the browser with no login, and each lesson has small exercises checked as you go. It is the gentlest start for someone who has never coded and wants to use Godot.

What it is
Learn GDScript From Zero is a free interactive course by GDQuest, a long-running Godot education team. It runs in your web browser (a desktop version is also available) and needs no account. Lessons explain one idea at a time, such as variables, functions, conditions, loops, arrays and dictionaries, then ask you to write code in a small editor that runs and checks it immediately, often moving a character or drawing on screen.
The app is open source and GDQuest describes it as a way into Godot for people who thought they could not code.
Who it is for
- Complete beginners who want to make games in Godot.
- People who know a little Python and want to see GDScript's differences.
If you already program comfortably in another language, you can skip it and go straight to the official Godot tutorials and the GDScript reference.
Is it worth it?
Yes for beginners. The feedback loop is quick, the exercises are short and it is focused on the programming concepts games actually use. It does not teach the Godot editor, scenes or nodes in depth; that comes next, through the official "Your first 2D game" tutorial.
Time
A few evenings for most people. Do every exercise yourself before looking at hints.
What you can do after it
Read and write simple GDScript: variables, functions, conditions, loops, arrays and dictionaries. You are ready for the official Godot step-by-step guide and the first 2D game tutorial.
Free vs paid
The app is free. GDQuest also sells paid courses and bundles on its own site; you do not need them to use this app.
Common questions
Is GDScript the same as Python? No. It looks similar, with indentation and similar keywords, but it is its own language built for Godot, with optional static typing.
Does it need Godot installed? No, it runs in the browser. You will install Godot for the next step.
Where it fits in the Sefism roadmap
It is the first learn pick for Godot members in the programming stage. Finish it, then move straight to the official "Your first 2D game" tutorial, so you practise the language inside the engine while it is fresh.

Stuck on something specific?
Writing only gets you so far. If you want an answer to your situation rather than the general case, book a session and we will work through it together. Sessions are free for approved Sefism members, and a few slots open each week.
