What it is
Lemon Squeezy is an all-in-one platform for selling software and digital products. It acts as the merchant of record, so it handles sales tax and VAT, and it includes a hosted checkout, subscriptions, licence key generation, file downloads, discount codes and an affiliate programme. It is popular with developers selling starter kits, plugins, desktop apps and small SaaS products.
Fees (as of 2026-09)
Lemon Squeezy's pricing page lists 5% + 50¢ per transaction with no monthly fee, and notes that some payments, such as those outside the US, may carry small extra fees. Check the fees page in its docs for the edge cases.
Its current status
Stripe acquired Lemon Squeezy in 2024. In 2026 Lemon Squeezy announced that its team is building Stripe Managed Payments, Stripe's own merchant of record service, and that the goal is to give Lemon Squeezy users an easy path to migrate. As of 2026-09 both exist. That is not a reason to avoid it, but it is a reason to keep your product and customer data portable, and to read Lemon Squeezy's latest announcements before you start. Note that Stripe Managed Payments itself is only open to businesses in the countries Stripe supports, while Lemon Squeezy's own docs say it pays out by bank or PayPal to many more countries.
Getting paid
According to its docs, payouts are made twice a month by bank transfer or PayPal, with a $50 minimum. PayPal payouts are in US dollars. Check that your country and bank are supported before your first sale.
Where it fits
- Digital downloads that need a licence key, such as a desktop app, a plugin or a paid starter kit.
- A small SaaS with a simple subscription.
- Sellers outside Stripe's supported countries who want a merchant of record.

Can I validate licence keys from my app? Yes, through its licence API.
Is it safe for a long-lived subscription business? It works, but with the move towards Stripe Managed Payments, plan for a possible migration.
