What it is

MentorCruise connects mentees with experienced professionals for ongoing mentorship rather than one-off calls. You browse mentors by company, skill or role, read their profile and reviews, and apply to work with them. Mentors set their own plans: typically a number of calls each month plus chat access in between, and sometimes extras such as reviewing your work or setting tasks.

According to MentorCruise's help centre, mentorships start with a trial period with the mentor and can be cancelled when you choose. Prices are set by each mentor and vary widely with experience and how much contact the plan includes. Why ongoing mentorship beats one-off sessions for some goals

A single session is right for a single decision. It is the wrong tool for a goal that takes six months, such as moving from mid-level to senior, changing specialisation, preparing for jobs in another country or building a consistent public presence. Those need someone who remembers what you said last month and asks whether you did it.

Is it worth paying for?

It can be, if three things are true: you have a specific goal with a timeline, you will do the work between calls, and the mentor's background matches the transition you are attempting. It is poor value if you mainly want occasional advice; free platforms and communities cover that. For many students and engineers in Pakistan the monthly cost is significant, so use the trial period to judge fit before paying for months.

What to check before committing

• Relevance, not prestige. A mentor who made the move you want (for example from a Pakistani software house to a remote role, or from backend to machine learning) is worth more than an impressive title.
• Availability and response time. Ask how quickly they reply to messages and how far ahead calls are booked.
• What is actually included: number and length of calls, chat, and any reviews of your work.
• Reviews from mentees with goals similar to yours.

How to get the most from it

• Write down your goal and deadline before the first call, and agree on what success looks like after three months.
• Send short weekly updates by chat: what you did, what blocked you, one question.
• Bring work to calls, not just questions: a draft profile, a design, a pull request, an application.
• Review after each month whether you are moving; switch mentors if not.
