What it is
n8n Academy is the official learning site for n8n, at learn.n8n.io. As of 2026-09 it offers a standalone Quickstart course and a Foundations programme of three courses:
- Essentials: Your First Workflows, covering the interface and how data moves through a workflow.
- Integrations: APIs and Connected Workflows, covering HTTP requests, APIs and workflows that connect several apps.
- In Practice: AI, Testing and Best Practices, covering AI features, testing and building workflows that hold up.
n8n's education page says every course is free, each finished course earns a completion certificate and badge, and completing the whole Foundations programme earns a programme certificate. It also says a separate timed certification exam is coming.
Who it is for
Beginners to n8n, including people without programming experience, and developers who want a structured route instead of piecing things together from videos. It suits students aiming to build automations for clients, because it moves from basics to APIs and good practice in a sensible order.
Time needed
Course pages describe the Essentials course as taking most learners around 2 to 4 hours. Plan roughly a weekend per course if you build every exercise yourself, which is where the learning happens.
Is it worth it?
Yes. It is free, official and current, which matters for a tool that changes as quickly as n8n. Older text courses in the documentation now redirect here. The badges are a small but real signal on a LinkedIn profile or freelance profile, especially next to your own portfolio workflows. What it will not do is teach you to scope, price or support client work, and it cannot replace building real workflows with messy data.
Prerequisites
None for Essentials. Basic comfort with JSON and HTTP helps a lot for the Integrations course; if those are new, learn them first from a general HTTP guide.
What you can do after
Build and debug multi-step n8n workflows, call APIs that have no built-in node, add AI steps, and apply testing and error handling. From there, the n8n documentation and community forum take you further.
Common questions
Do I need n8n Cloud? No. A self-hosted n8n in Docker or a Cloud trial both work for the exercises.
Is there a certificate? Yes, for each course and for the full programme.
Is it in video or text? Check each course page; format varies by course.

Stuck on something specific?
Writing only gets you so far. If you want an answer to your situation rather than the general case, book a session and we will work through it together. Sessions are free for approved Sefism members, and a few slots open each week.
