What it is
The n8n workflow template library is a public collection of workflows shared by n8n and its community. As of 2026-09 the page lists 12,443 templates, grouped into categories including AI, Sales, IT Ops, Marketing, Document Ops and Support. Each template page shows the workflow diagram, a description of what it does, the nodes it uses and setup notes, and can be imported into your own n8n instance in a couple of clicks.
Why it is useful for learning
Templates show you patterns that are hard to invent from scratch: how others structure lead routing, parse documents with AI, build a Slack approval step, or sync a CRM with a sheet. The most effective way to use them is not just to import and run them:
- Import a template and read every node and expression.
- Close it and rebuild the same workflow from an empty canvas.
- Then improve it: add error handling, duplicate protection and alerts, which many templates leave out.
That last step turns a template into a portfolio piece that shows judgement, not just copying.
Quality varies
Templates are community contributions. Some are excellent; others are demos that work on happy-path data only, use broad permissions or skip error handling. Before using one for a client, review every credential it needs, remove anything you do not understand, and test with realistic data. Check the date and node versions, as older templates may use superseded nodes.
Publishing your own
n8n invites creators to submit templates to the library, and its page mentions earning through an affiliate programme. Publishing a well-documented template can be a good way to show your skills publicly. Never include real credentials, client names or customer data in anything you publish.
Free versus paid
Browsing and importing templates is free. Running them needs n8n itself, either self-hosted or on a paid n8n Cloud plan, plus any paid services the template calls, such as AI model APIs.
Common questions
Can I use a template in client work? Generally yes, but you are responsible for what it does, so review and test it fully first.
Do templates include credentials? No; you connect your own.
Are there paid templates? The official library is free to browse and import; third-party marketplaces are separate.
