What this cheat sheet is
The Sefism Tech jobs abroad cheat sheet is a revision reference for moving abroad for a tech job, from deciding where to go to your first 90 days. It is written for students, graduates and working engineers, and it follows the same order as the Tech jobs abroad roadmap.
Each edition has 8 chapters and between 61 and 66 concepts. Each concept is written the same way: what it is in plain words, why it matters, and the mistake people usually make with it. Each chapter ends with up to three library resources, most of them official government pages, and a glossary covers the smaller terms.
There are four editions, one per destination: the Gulf (UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar), Germany and the EU, the UK and Ireland, and East Asia (Japan, Singapore and South Korea). Seven chapters are shared; the visa chapter is your destination's own, with a visa table, and several shared chapters add destination cards such as Anmeldung for Germany or end-of-service gratuity for the Gulf.
Chapter by chapter
1. Decide if, and where
Your relocation goal, remote job or relocation, net monthly saving, cost of living comparison, dependant rules, a family move plan, intra-company transfers and a main and backup destination, plus destination cards such as nationals-first hiring and Nitaqat in the Gulf, social contributions in Germany or language level in Japan and Korea.
2. Visas and work permits
Five concepts that apply wherever you go: visa sponsorship, job-seeker routes, the official source rule, salary thresholds and the grace period after a job ends. The chapter's warning is the most important line in the sheet: thresholds and fees change, often every January, so check the official page the week you act.
3. Your destination's work routes
One chapter per edition, written from the official pages as they stood in October 2026. The Gulf edition covers UAE work permits and the Golden Visa, the iqama and Saudi Premium Residency, and Qatar's work residence permit. The Germany and EU edition covers the Opportunity Card, the EU Blue Card, blocked accounts, anabin and the ZAB statement of comparability. The UK and Ireland edition covers sponsor licences, certificates of sponsorship, the Skilled Worker visa, Irish Critical Skills and General Employment permits and Stamp 4. The East Asia edition covers Japan's engineer status and Highly Skilled Professional, Singapore's Employment Pass and COMPASS, South Korea's E-7 and certificates of eligibility. Each ends with a visa table.
4. Degrees, attestation and documents
Attestation, apostille, embassy legalisation, credential recognition, HEC attestation, IBCC attestation and equivalence, police clearance certificates, experience letters and a document checklist.
5. A profile employers abroad will shortlist
The employer context line, impact bullets, the visa status line, right to work, local CV norms, ATS-friendly CVs, Open to Work settings, project case studies and background checks, with a CEFR card for Germany and the rirekisho for Japan.
6. Find employers who hire from abroad
A target company list, relocation-friendly job boards, recruitment agencies, referrals, job and visa scam red flags, verifying an offer and salary expectations.
7. The offer and the move
An offer comparison worksheet, relocation packages, repayment clauses, probation and notice periods, a relocation timeline and salary benchmarks, plus Gulf cards on end-of-service gratuity, basic salary and allowances and registered contracts.
8. Your first 90 days
Residence ID and registration deadlines, temporary housing, rental scams, workplace norms, an emergency fund, tax residence and your route to long-term residence, with destination cards such as Anmeldung or the UK eVisa.
Rules of thumb
The sheet closes with ten tips, among them: never pay for a job or a visa, because genuine employers and recruiters are paid by the company; take every visa rule, threshold and fee from the official page and write down the date you read it; ask "why not a remote job from home?" before you decide to move; compare offers on what you save each month after tax and rent; start degree attestation the week you choose a destination; do not resign at home until the permit is approved; and keep an emergency fund for several months, because an employer-tied visa can give you only weeks after a job ends.
How to use it with the roadmap
- After each stage, read the matching chapter and see whether you can explain every concept without looking.
- Before you apply anywhere, reread chapters 5 and 6, and run the scam red flags on every recruiter who contacts you.
- The day an offer arrives, read chapter 7 before you reply, and check the visa table in chapter 3 against the official page.
- In your first week abroad, keep chapter 8 open as a checklist.

FAQ
Is this a substitute for the roadmap? No. The roadmap is the plan, with hours, milestones and checklists; the sheet is what you revise from once you have done the work.
Are the visa facts current? They were written from the official pages as of October 2026. Thresholds and fees change often, so treat every number as dated and check the official page before you act.
What is attestation? Official confirmation, through a chain of offices, that your degree or document is genuine. Some countries accept an apostille instead. Chapter 4 explains which applies where.
How do I spot a fake job offer? Requests to pay for the job, a visa or training, contact only through chat apps, offers without an interview and pressure to send documents fast are the main red flags. Chapter 6 lists them with how to verify an offer.
