Soft Skills Engineering

A long running podcast answering listener questions about the non technical side of engineering: bad managers, awkward teammates, promotions, quitting and negotiating. The closest thing to a free mentor answering the questions you cannot ask at work.

What it is

A weekly podcast in which two experienced engineers answer two listener questions about the human parts of the job, with humour and without pretending the answers are simple.

Why it works as mentorship

The recurring value is discovering that your situation is common. A great many engineers privately believe their team's dysfunction is unique and that raising it would reveal them as difficult. Hearing the same question asked by strangers for years, and answered seriously, is genuinely reassuring and often practically useful.

The topics that recur

Managers who do not manage, peers who will not review code, being passed over, whether to quit, how to ask for more money, and how to work with someone you do not like. All the things nobody teaches and everybody encounters.

Best for: anyone navigating a workplace situation they cannot discuss at work.

Writing only gets you so far. If you want an answer to your situation rather than the general case, book a session and we will work through it together. Every session is free; a few slots open each week.
