What it is
A long two part article laying out a full negotiation strategy: never give the first number, avoid revealing your current compensation, keep every offer alive until the end, be pleasant throughout, and be honest without being naive.
Why it is more convincing than the alternatives
It is specific and it shows its work, including the actual offers and how each moved. Negotiation advice usually stays abstract because the writer will not share numbers, and abstraction is exactly what leaves people unable to act.
The point that changes most outcomes
That you are negotiating with a person whose job includes negotiating, that they expect it, and that being warm and firm at the same time is both possible and the most effective posture. Most engineers are firm without warmth, or warm without firmness, and both cost money.
Best for: anyone with an offer, or about to have one. Read it before your first recruiter call, not after.
