What the channel covers
Web Dev Simplified, by Kyle Cook, is about teaching web development efficiently. The channel says it aims to take you from no stack to full stack, and also does deep dives into more advanced topics. Most videos take a single idea (a JavaScript feature, a React hook, a CSS property, an authentication pattern) and explain it with a small, clear example.
Alongside the concept videos there are project builds, both small and large, and series on clean code and testing.
Playlists to start with
- New Web Developers Start Here: the channel's own entry point for complete beginners.
- Full Stack Web Development Course: a longer path through building a full stack app.
- Small Projects and Large Projects: builds sorted by size, so you can pick one that matches your time.
- React and React Hooks: the core of React, one idea per video.
- Useful Custom React Hooks: good once you are comfortable with the built-in hooks.
- TypeScript and Next.js: for the modern React stack.
- Web App Security/Authentication: sessions, tokens and common security mistakes.
- Clean Code, SOLID Design Principles and Testing: habits that matter once your projects grow.
- Programming Terms Explained: short definitions of words you keep hearing.
Who it suits
Beginners who have the basics of HTML, CSS and JavaScript and want to move into React, students who keep a list of "things I never quite understood" (closures, the event loop, useEffect), and working developers who want a fast refresher on a specific feature.
How to learn without getting stuck in tutorial loops
- Watch with a question. Search the channel when you hit a specific confusion in your own project, watch that one video, then go back to your code.
- Retype, do not copy. Rebuild each example in your editor, then change one thing and predict what will happen before you run it.
- Pair every concept with a project. After the React Hooks playlist, build something small that needs state, effects and a custom hook of your own.
- Use the project playlists as briefs. Read the title, try to build it yourself first, and only watch when you are properly stuck.
Pair it with on Sefism
- The Frontend development roadmap and Full stack development roadmap give you the order; keep the Frontend cheat sheet for quick revision after each stage.
- Read the React Documentation and The TypeScript Handbook alongside the videos, and practise layouts with Frontend Mentor.
- For the clean code side, the Software design and clean code roadmap goes further.
- Unsure of the order? See What to learn to become a web developer, and in what order.

Stuck on something specific?
Writing only gets you so far. If you want an answer to your situation rather than the general case, book a session and we will work through it together. Sessions are free for approved Sefism members, and a few slots open each week.
