Webflow University

Webflow University is Webflow's free learning site: short video courses on the Designer, layout and the box model, classes, the CMS, interactions and site launch. Its lessons teach real web fundamentals through Webflow, so the skills carry over to hand-written HTML and CSS. Certification exams are optional.

What it covers

Webflow University (university.webflow.com) is the official place to learn Webflow, and it is free. It is organised into courses, videos, learning paths and role-based tracks for designers, visual developers, marketers, content editors and admins. Useful starting points listed as of 2026-09 include:

  • Webflow 101: the fundamentals course, which teaches web principles such as the box model, HTML structure and CSS through the Webflow Designer
  • Getting Started with Webflow: a short orientation to the interface
  • Learn building fundamentals: layout, styling and the box model
  • Design and manage CMS content: collections, fields and dynamic pages
  • Add interactions and animations
  • Webflow for content editors: useful when you hand a site over to a client

There are also checklists (SEO, pre-launch, design systems) and a glossary, which are handy when you are about to publish a client site.

Why it is good for learners

Webflow is a visual tool, but it writes real HTML and CSS, and University's lessons explain what is happening underneath: why a div block behaves like a div, what a combo class does to the cascade, why flexbox or grid is the right choice for a layout. That makes it a decent introduction to web fundamentals even if you later write code by hand. The videos are short and paced for beginners, and each concept is shown in the actual interface you will use.

Free vs paid

All the courses and videos are free. Webflow also offers certifications, currently the Webflow Practitioner (for beginners) and the Webflow Visual Developer (for experienced builders), each a 50-question multiple-choice exam valid for two years, according to the certifications page as of 2026-09. The page does not list a public exam price, so check before you register. Some courses include short free assessments to check your understanding first. Separately, publishing a site on a custom domain needs a paid Webflow site plan; check webflow.com/pricing for current plans.

Prerequisites and time

None beyond a free Webflow account. Webflow 101 is a few hours of video; plan a couple of weeks of practice to rebuild a small site from a design on your own.

Common questions

Is Webflow University enough to get client work? It teaches the tool well. Clients also need copy, SEO basics, accessibility and a clean handover, which you learn by building complete sites.

Should I learn HTML and CSS too? Yes, at least the basics. You will need them for custom code embeds and for debugging layouts.
